What type of alarms can be monitored with Zuluhood?

You can use monitoring options in Zuluhood for the following type of alarms:

  • Water leakage detection

  • Smoke or fire detection

  • Gas leakage detection

  • Window or door open detection

  • Unexpected motion detection

  • Personal panic alarm

Every time the alarm connected to Zuluhood is triggered, it will notify your household members added to your Tribe, neighbors who have been designated as Watchers, and the alarm monitoring company if the alarm monitoring service is turned on.

Water leakage alarm

Smart home sensors for water leakage detection typically utilize moisture or water sensors placed in strategic locations, such as near sinks, toilets, or water-based appliances. When these sensors detect the presence of water or moisture, they send an alert.

Some of the water leakage sensors that connect to Zuluhood through IFTTT (guide here) are listed below:

  • Honeywell home compatible water leak detectors

  • Fibraro flood sensor (connected via a compatible smart hub or cloud service, like SmartThings or Google Home)

  • D-Link water sensor

  • Notion water sensor

Please note that this list is not exhaustive. To check compatibility with other sensors, you can verify if they can be connected directly to IFTTT or via any supported smart home hubs, such as SmartThings or Google Home.

Smoke or fire detection alarm

Smoke or fire detectors use specialized sensors that can detect the presence of smoke or rapid changes in temperature. When smoke or a significant temperature increase is detected, the sensors activate the alarm.

Some of the smoke or fire detection alarms sensors that connect to Zuluhood (learn how) are listed below:

  • Honeywell home compatible detectors

  • Nest Protect

  • First alert

There are certainly more options available. To check if your sensor can be connected, simply verify if it can be directly connected to IFTTT or via any supported smart home hub.

Gas leakage detection

Gas leakage detectors employ gas sensors designed to detect the presence of specific gases, such as natural gas or carbon monoxide. These sensors continuously monitor the air quality and, upon detecting abnormal gas levels, activate the alarm.

Compatible gas detectors are:

  • Nest Protect (smoke and CO)

  • Wyze (smoke and CO)

  • Tuya Methane Gas Sensor Smart ZigBee (CH4 – natural gas detection)

Again, there are more options available. You can explore different Zigbee or Z-Wave sensors and connect them to a compatible hub or cloud service for integration with Zuluhood.

Window or door open detection

Smart home sensors for window or door open detection use magnetic or motion sensors installed near windows or doors. When the sensors detect a separation or movement indicating that a window or door has been opened, they trigger the alert.

Zuluhood supports:

  • Fibraro window or door sensors

  • Sonoff ZigBee Wireless Door Window Sensor

  • Aqara Door and Window Sensor

The above sensors require a hub, and there are more Zigbee alternatives available. Additionally, you can also consider using smart locks such as August smart lock or MyQ garage door opener sensor to alert you when your doors are open. You can even work with your smart thermostats, which can detect a sudden drop in temperature (open window detection feature).

Unexpected motion detection

Sensors for unexpected motion detection utilize infrared or microwave technology to detect changes in heat or movement. In cases where these sensors are integrated into security cameras, they can also detect significant changes in the camera's visual feed. This enables them to differentiate between minor movements, such as a mouse in the background, and more substantial changes, such as a person or potential intruder entering the frame. When unexpected motion or movement is detected while the home is supposed to be unoccupied, the alarm system is activated accordingly.

There are a lot of different devices in this segment, such as:

  • Ezviz cameras

  • Wyze cameras

  • Blink cameras

  • Alro cameras

  • Fibraro motion detectors or other Zigbee motion detectors connected to a compatible hub

However, in this segment, there are even comprehensive home alarm systems that work with Zuluhood, such as Abode, Scout alarm, Blue by ADT, or Notion.

Personal panic alarm

In Zuluhood, a panic alarm refers to any alarm initiated directly by a person through the Zuluhood app. This can be triggered by you or any member of your Tribe to whom you have granted access to this feature, including children or elderly individuals. Additionally, if you own a Google Home or Amazon Alexa speaker, you have the option to define the voice command "OK Google, trigger Zuluhood" or "Alexa, trigger Zuluhood" as a panic alarm. To achieve this, you can utilize IFTTT (If This Then That) and configure the Google Assistant or Alexa as the trigger, and Zuluhood as the action, or activate predefined applets already established for this purpose.
